DEATH OF TRAINER.
MR. KOSS HEATON. The death occurred yesterday at his residence, Ascot Avenue, Remuera, of Mr. Koas Heaton at the ad Anced age of _ 82 years. Born in the Wanganui district, the deceased came to Auckland about 1883, and subsequently joined up with Mr. J. Kean, of Kohimarama, a well-known racehorse owner at that period. Regarded as a firet-clase horseman, the deceased won a number of races both on the flat and over obstacles, and rode Despised when that horse won the Great Northern Steeplechase in 1893. Later in iiis career, Mr. ■ Heaton took on training and met with a fair amount of He won the Easter Handicap in 1903 with Golden Rose, and the also trained that good pony, Avalanche, who won a number of races at Ellerelie and the Tak*puna meetings. Broadwood, owned by Mr. Heaton, was also a finet-claes galloper, being deemed unlucky when Rose-day beat him narrowly in the' Easter Handicap in 1923. The deceased leaves a wife, two sops and a daughter, to whom much sympathy ie extended.
