LEAGUE FOOTBALL.
CANTERBURY TEAM. NEWTON MATCH TO-MORROW. The touring Canterbury Rugby League team, which played the Auckland representative team last Saturday, will play the Newton team at Carlaw Park to-mor-row afternoon, when a fast and even match is expected. The visitors had lijrht training this morning at Victoria Park and to-morrow expect to field their stronzest eide. Earlier in the season the Newton team vieited Christchurch and there played a drawn match with Canterbury. The Newton team is at present holding a_ leading place in the Auckland competitions and in the match to-morrow v.i'.! have the services of R. Banham. the Sydney player-coach. who played for them in the five-eijrhth line when they made the trip to Christchurch. The teams are:— CANTERBURY. Backs: Boutery. Davison. Guy, Rope. Smith. Whitley, Berri, L. Brown (one to be omitted). Forwards: Crimes. Dunn, Lan<r. Bellamy, Barnarrl, Price, Airey, Clark (two to be omitted). NEWTON. Barks: Dempsey. Jones. W MrKenzie I D. Mc-Kcnzie. Taylor. Hill. Kendall, Ban- | ham. K. Brimble, W. Brimble (three to be omitted). Forwards: Nathan. Quirke, Proctor. Hinders, S. Proctor, Watene, Preston lone to be omitted). Falling from hi* horse at Pokeno yo*terday, Mr. William John Cantwell, 22, single, a labourer employed at th« Public Works camp at Maungatawhiri. is believed to have suffered a fractured pelvis. He was taken to the Auckland Hospital in a St. John ambulance. His condition to-day was net serious.
