TE RAPA TRIALS.
YOUNG PADDON SPRINTS.
ORWERE AXSO GOES WXIX.
(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") HAMILTON, this day. The course proper, 48ft out, provided comparatively good going at Te Rapa this morning, when, in adaition to the eprinting of a number of candidates for the Pakuranga Hunt at EHerslie on Saturday, a number of two-year-olds were sent along over short distances, ranging from one to three furlongs. The best effort of the morning was a five-furlong trial by Young Paddon, while another to please was Orwere. Conditions generally were pleasant, although rain threatened at one stage. i Among those to be worked prior to the breakfast interval were Royal Bachelor and Olympus, who were not after time in running five furlongs in ,1.12. Both these members of A. Julian's establishment are looking well, but may need racing before they are fully attuned. Prince Acre (Winder) wae not bustled while running to the five-furlong post at las to the furlong. Princ»* Acre is bearing a solid appearance, and should make a bold showing in the Jellkoe Handicap. The feature trial of the morning was that of the sprint candidate, Young Paddon (Long), who got to the end of five furlonge in 1.7%. He ran his first three in 38 4-ss, and four in 53%5. Young Paddon did his work in pleasing style. Susan (Hain) was not after time in negotiating four furlongs in 59%e. She ie well forward in condition for racing. Hempston (Bootema) slipped over two furlongs along the back in 27 l-se. Kakarere (McKenzie) worked over a circuit at strong threequarter pace, speeding up over the last couple of furlongs. Forest Acre (Winder) negotiated six furlongs in 1.25, his initial five furlongs in 1.11 1-5. He went easilyover the early part, and was revelling in hie work at the end. Forest Acre has seldom looked better, and he is in good hearfr for engagements ahead. Bronze Step and Whinoa, two maidens in F. Tuto-hen'e etable, ran from the four to the six-furlong poet in 26 4-se. The two Fox-bridge youngsters dashed over three furlongs (from the three-furlong peg to the six) in 42 4-ss. A useful effort. Tosh (Gilmer) ran an easy two furlongs along the back in 27 3-se. Orac (Thompson), an acceptor for the Jellicoe Handicap, ran eix furlongs in 1.23. The • I first half wae run in 55 l-ss, and the five in 1.9 1-5. Orac looks well. The fastest furlong of the pro- ! gramme was accomplished by the Sur--1 veyor colt, a half-brother to Trilliarch, and the Hunting Song—Clover Leaf colt, . who ran from the five to the six-furlong peg in 12 4-oe. Both are stylish customers in appearance, and they pulled np ; well. The Beau Pere—Modiste 11. colt, and the Hunting Song—Lady Whirlwind ' filly, in Julian's_ etable, had their first sprint this morning, being clocked to run a furlong in 13s. The Beau Pere colt ie the most attractive-looking juvenile at ' headquarters, and. interest will attach to . his progress. Mangukaha (Thomson) , negotiated a round in 2.15, running her , first half-mile in 56e. Sir Lyeander (Winder) dashed over two furlongs along the ' back, from the four to the six-furlong ' peg in 25 3-5s —a smart effort. Orwere ', (J. McLaughlin), -who is to contest the , first division of the Sylvia Park Handicap, cleared right away from Mio Fratollo ! (Day) in the middle stages of five furJ longs to finalise her effort in 1.8%, the ' first four taking 53%e. It was a smart 5 effort for one of her class, and this morni ing's gallop drawe attention to her claims - at the Pakuranga Hunt. Tradesman , worked at strong three-quarter pace over . a circuit.
