U.S. DEMAND REJECTED.

FARMLANDS IN MEXICO. MEXICO CITY, July 28. President Cardinas has intimated that Mexico would reject the United States' demand for a settlement bv international arbitration of the dispute concerning compensation for the expropriation of American-owned farm lands. He hinted that the Mexican Government considered nothing would be sained by arbitration since it had previously expressed a desire to make indemnities provided a cash payment was not demanded.

The President added that the Government was anxious to pay for everything expropriated, but that was impossible unless Mexico's petroleum ;ould be sold abroad.
