First Boats in Unsurcharged

Inaugurating the first unsurcharged air mail to Australia, Sir Kingslev Wood, Secretary of State for Air, said he hoped it would not be many months before a regular service spanned the Tasman Sea. The scheme was not a spectacular, costly venture, but a straightforward normal development. Mr. W. J. Jordan. Xew Zealand High Commissioner, hoped it would not be long before Xew Zealand would be linked tip by seaplane. The Calypso and Cameronia carried 08 bags of Australian and Xew Zealand mail, weighing two tons.
The Air Ministry and Southampton Harbour Board have agreed to the establishment of a permanent Empire flying J>oat base ,111 Southampton Water, near Xetley Castle. A clear fairway is being dredged in an area a mile long and 120 feet wide.
