SERIOUS RIOTING.
Religious Festivals Excite
Indian Mobs. MANY GRUESOME DEATHS. (Received 11.30 a.m.) BOMBAY, March 18. A message from Allahabad states that communal rioting resulted in seven deatli». Soldiers are patrolling the streets with fixed bayonets, and all shops are closed. A later message stated that the rioting became worse when Hindu houses were set ablaze. The police fired on a Muslim mob invading a dispensary, injuring 11. An earlier cable stated that sporadic rioting in connection with the coincidence of the Hindu holy festival with the Mohurrum, which always excites the sectarianism between Hindus and Mussulmans, is reported in all parts of India. Twelve have been killed and 200 injured since Sunday. " A message from Nalian, in the Punjab, states that villagers belonging to Kirti, who refused alms to five saddhus (holy men) making a pilgrimage to Hurdwar, were threatened with black magic, which was followed by the mysterious burning of 20 houses while the inmates were asleep. The inmates were incinerated. The villagers retaliated in kind by roasting the saddhus alive. /
