MORE CONCESSIONS.
Marriage Allowances for Naval Officers. PROMOTION RULES. » British Official Wireless. (Received 9.30 a.m.) RUGBY, March 18. The Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty, Mr. G. H. Shakespeare, in presenting the Navy Estimates in the House of Commons, announced new arrangements for marriage allowances for naval officers, except the medical branch, and other concessions for warrant officers and commissioned officers from warrant rank. An allowance, which will be payable to married officers at the age of 30 years up to the rank of captain in the Navy and lieutenant-colonel in the Royal Marines,- will be effected by a small reduction in the full pay to all officers, with a few exceptions, and will be scaled with additions for children. In an illustrative case of a married officer with one child, if the officer is a captain he will receive £100 extra each year, and if of a lower rank £80 —that is, a marriage allowance after a cut of 2/ a day in pay. Warrant officers will suffer no cut and will receive marriage allowances on a lower scale, while commissioned officers from warrant rank will suffer a smaller cut in pay than the standard cut, and receive the same allowance as warrant officers. There will be an alteration in the rules relating to promotion. Other concessions to warrant officers were also announced. All concessions will operate from April 1.
