PREMISES GUTTED.

WATCHMAN BURNED TO DEATH

(Received 1 p.m.) LOXDOX, December 28. A watchman was burned to death and £30,000 worth of stock, including 80.000 records, gramophones, and radio and television sets, was destroyed in a lire which gutted the premises of His Masters Voice Company in Oxford Street.

I'or the first time in history, says a British official wireless message, the London Fire Brigade's large canvas tank, designed for service in air raid precaution measures, was set up in the middle of Oxford Street to provide extra pressure for hoses with which 2.50 firemen for three hours fought the fire.

Thirty fire engines were engaged deal ing with the outbreak.
