VICTORY AT LAST.
KANGAROOS' TEST.
TEN POINTS TO SPARE. ENGLAND RETAINS RUBBER. LONDON, December 19. Victory.in the third and final Rugby League Test, played at Hudderefield on Saturday, went to Australia by 13 points to 3. England had previously won the "ashes" with succeesea in the first and second matches. The game was played in dull weather. England opened with a desperate attack, which kept the visitors on the defensive, but frequent penalties afforded the Australians relief. The Australian backs worked well and made several splendid efforts, but they could not finish off their movements. Then Norval, following up quickly, secured possession and, although tackled, forced hi« way over the line. Beaton converted. A good passing movement by the Australian backs enabled Reardon to score in the corner. The kick failed. England then took a turn on the attack and Hudson scored a try, which was not converted. Australia's lead was increased when Beaton was successful with a penalty kick. England rallied desperately in the second •pell and rugged exchanges ensued. The home team was dominant in the scrums, but Australia excelled in the loose. In a fast reversal Norval scored in the corner, giving Australia a commanding lead, which it held to the finish.
England won at Leeds on October 16 by 5 points to 4, after the Kangaroos had Jed 4 —2 at the interval. Four weeks later the Englishmen's margin was the lane as Australia's last Saturday, 13—3. Of 23 matches played in England on the 1037 tour, the Australians have won 13, lost 0 and drawn 1.
