NOT GETTING BASIC WAGE.
POST OFFICE EMPLOYEES.
VV o are not getting the basic wage. Last year they gave us an allowance to bring our pay up as near as possible to tlio basic wage. Now they • have taken that off. but have given us the latent increase, so it only amount* to a 'Chinaman's rise.'"
This wan the plaint of a junior member of the Post ond Telegraph Department to-day. in expressing an opinion on tho retrospective increase* in pay announced yesterday a« applying to tlie I'M nk a lid tile of the Public Service.
"Ws. ' ho added, "there are about one hundred of us between the aires of 22 and 24 years who luive had eight years' service and are not fretting the basic wage or the benefits that are going to others. There are many affected thic* way throughout New Zealand."
li<i further stated that the bovs concerned in the Wellington Chief l'o*t Office had interviewed the Prime Minister on the subject.
