INQUESTS CONCLUDED. DHOWXINi; IN" QUARRY POOL. Accidental drowning was found by the coroner (Mr. K. K. Hunt) to have l*»en the cause of death of Owen Leonard Miller. aged 1"> years, in a lagoon in a <1 is-used quarry at Point Chevalier, on Sunday. October .'ll. The inquest was concluded this morning. The circumstances disclosed by the deposit ions were that Owen Miller, with a younger brother. Trevor. «nd an uncle went swimming in the lagoon on the afternoon of the Sunday mentioned. All three were poor swimmers, but they started in company to swim across the lagoon. Trevor found the distance beyond him and turned back. At tinea me time he noticed that his brother was in difficulties, and called to him to try to float. Owen seemed to make the effort, but sank momentarily. «me up again and went down once more, finally. Meantime the uncle, Leslie Miller, had managed to struggle to the side of the lagoon. Help was summoned froii! a house about 100 yds distant. but the body was not recovered until next morning. Leslie Miller stated that he was having difficulty in getting Across the pool when he heard Owen exclaim and called to him to grab witness' leg, while witness himself managed to grasp some weed and pull himself to the bank. He then looked round, but Owen had disapi>eared. Toll of the Road. Culpability having been decided by Supreme Court actions, the decisions being reported in police depositions, the coroner completed inquests touching the deaths of .Tohn Jones (01). in King Edward Parade. Dcvonport, on June •">. Victor Perciv«il (17). at the junction of Ponsonby Road and Pollen Street on June '2-i; and Ivy Cavenett (40). near the Oreat South P.oad junction with Manukau Road on May '27. The coroner found in each case that the cati-se of death was injuries stifl--1 tained in a motor car collision.
