u FOUR MONTHS'" SCHEME.. STATE PLACEMENT SERVICE A total of 340 men have been placed in work this week through the Auckland office of the State Placement Service. The placement officer, Mr. J. R. Klsbury. stated this morning that of this total 231 had been employed privately, Iftti on Government and local body work, and 12 linder the local body ( I four months' scheme. Of the 231 employed privately 6ft were found permanent work, lift temporary work and 43 casual work. Five women and lti youths were included. A number of the boroughs employing men under the four months' scheme completed tlie first term this week, and next week new gangs will begin. With C hristma« approaching. said Mr. | Flsliury. there was a considerable amount of temporary work offering, particularly in the retail establishments, tor youths under 20 vear« of age. Farm Work Offered. Single men. who are considered fit for the work, are bei-ig drafted out to subsidised farm wo.k and during recent weeks the uneriploved registers in the Auckland district have been combed. The men sought bad to be under 42 years of age and physically fit to undertake farm work. Work was offered to all who came into that category and 43 men accepted. Of the total. Tiowever. n good number refused. These men have been classed as "voluntarily unemployed" and are not entitled to any benefits from unemployment funds. Some had reasons , that entitled them to exemption.
