ACTIVE AND STRONG.

Quick Recovery of Markets Recorded.

LONDON AND NEW YORK.

(Received 12 noon.) LONDON", October 21. Markets were active and strong following the overnight recovery of Wall Street and the non-intervention news. Engineering, shipping, oil and rubber shares were especially favoured and there were many substantial gains.

The change of sentiment is remarkable, though buying is mainly professional. It is felt the public will not be long in following the lead provided Wall Street manages to hold its recovery.

Buying' orders flowed steadily to the New \ork stock market yesterday, forcing prices up one to 11 points. Transactions totalled 4.340,000 shares.

Higher grade bonds were firmer and speculative issues, which habitually follow the trend of stocks, rallied one to four points.
