WEIXINGTON LOCAL BODIES.

WELLINGTON. Wednesday.

The acting-Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, to-day convened a conference of representatives of local bodies in Wellington city and district to discuss the absorption of 500 men for four months at full-time employment.

On behalf of the Government the Minister promised to subsidise the men'e wages up to £4 weekly. He asked local bodies to co-operate in finding work of national and local importance.

This the delegates promised to do and they are to submit a schedule of work for the Minister's approval.
