"SALLY" FOR AMATEURS
Lilting melodies and colourful settings of the musical comedy "Sally," which has been chosen by the Auckland Operatic Society as its 13th annual production, should please local audiences. In London, New York and Australia, where this musical has been enthusiastically received, some of the world's greatest musical comedy actresses have appeared in the title role. Many will remember Marilyn Miller's quick rise to fame on Broadway after her appearance under the late Florenz Ziegfeld, as Sally. In the Auckland production Miss Bettina Edwards will take the main role. One of the most accomplished of local performers, Miss Edwards has appeared with success in many previous operatic productions, including "Tutankhamen," "Abbess of Whitby," and "La Mascotte." Her songs will be "You Can't Keep a Good Girl Down," "A Heart Full of Joy and Gladness" and "Wild Rose." With Mr. Philip Jay she will sing the duets, "Look For a Silver Lining" and "Whip-Poor-WilL"
