ROTARY YEAR.

IDEALS MAINTAINED.

COMMUNITY SERVICE.

REPORT OF ACTIVITIES. "The year of Rotary activity in Auckland has continued to further promulgate and establish the ideals of Rotary in this community. The keynote of fellowship has been maintained by forums, club service and community activity." This is the conclusion voiced in the annual report of the Auckland Rotary Club, whose year has just closed. According to the report of its directors the club held 46 meetings, the average attendance being 81.75 per cent of the roll, as against 77 per cent the previous year. The membership now stands at 137 active, two honorary and nine past service. The report expressed the thanks of the club to Mrs. Rhodes and her family for enjoyable evenings spent at "Ronaki." Committees' reports deal with activities in international service, boys' work, Sunshine organisations and music. Twenty-five pounds was donated to--wards helping backward children, £150 towards the health camp at Motuihi, £50 towards the installation of a talkie outfit for the Leper Island of Makogai and £5 to the Otaki Sanatorium. Through the guidance of Sister Esther £50 was given for shoes for needy children, £100 towards the sustenance of a number of families to whom meat, bread and milk were supplied as required in each case. In connection with the boy scout movement the report says: Through "J. 8." (Sir Joseph Smith) and other Rotarians the club has been associated with the Boys' Employment Committee, of which "j.8." Smith was president. The nature of the work done by this committee has been somewhat altered in that it has now been connected up with the Placement Department of the Government. At the same time, the committee has been asked to continue in an advisory capacity, and three Rotarians have been appointed members of this committee. The inaugural meeting for the new Rotarian year will be held in Milne and Choyce's Reception Hall this evening, after which Rotarians and their wives will attend the Tudor Cinema as the guests of Rotarian Phil Hayward.
