PENWOMEN'S CLUB.

LITERATURE STUDY CIRCLE.

At the April meeting of the literature study circle a paper..on Eileen Duggan, the New Zealand poet, was read by Miss N. Martin. Miss Duggan was born at Tua Marina, Marlborough and received her early education at Marlborough College, afterwards going to Victoria College, Wellington, where she obtained her M.A. degree. Miss Duggan has recently received the decoration of 0.8. E. Many of her poems have been set to music.

Several beautiful poems were read by Miss Martin, including "The Huia," "The Kiwi" and "The Kingfisher," from "New Zealand Bird Songs." Poems were also read by Mrs. Maisie Carte Lloyd ("The Tui" and "The Cuckoo"), Mrs. M. Lusty ("Trouble"), Miss A. Greville ("The Bittern" and "The First Night") and Mrs. Saunders ("Swamp Land"). The convener, Miss A. Greville, presided and thanked Miss Martin for her paper.
