MORE GOOD CATCHES.
SHARKS AND SWORDFISH. PARTIES OFF MAYOR ISLAND. TAURAXGA, this day. Splendid sport in Mayor Island waters was reported by launch parties which returned from the island last night. Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Krejeik, of Vienna, Austria, fishing from the launch Tui, landed three swordlish, the weights of which were 2451b, 2031b and 2051b. Mr. and Mrs. Krejeik this morning expressed themselves as delighted with the sport. All three fish fought resolutely for periods of up to 75 minutes. The second swordlish gave a thrilling display, and leaped eiear of the water 12 times. It also doubled) up and raised itself vertically on many occasions. '. Mr.' Krejeik said" the sport was very exciting, and he had never had such' an experience. He was- delighted with, the trip that he hoped to return to Tatiranga with Mrs. Krejeik and go to Mayor Island again before the fishing season closes. .
A giant thresher shark was captured by Mrs. Campbell Duncan, wife of Dr. Campbell Duncan, of Kotorua, yesterday from the launch Kingfish. The shark fought for an hour and three-quarters before it was brought to the gaff. It was lojft long, with a girth of sft, and its tail was Sft long. It fought ctrenuously. When weighed at Tauranga this morning it turned the scales at 7101b. Mrs. Duncan was successful last week on a swordfishing trip. Another angler on the Kingfish, • Mr. Chas. Morgan, of Wellington, landed a mako shark of 3001b., and Mr. C. Miles, of Hamilton, fishing from the launch Kingfish, captured a swordfish of 2751b, which fought for 75 minutes. Swordfish are very plentiful off tho island.
