FALL OVER CLIFF.

TRIO IN MOTOR CAR. ACCIDENT NEAR ALBANY. RESCUE IW RAW. Three people were fortunate to escape with their lives last night when the motor car in which they were returning from Red Beach, left the road about 9.30 p.m., and somersaulted 100 ft over the cliff, which drops down from the side of the road, about two miles beyond Albany, near the junction of Coatesville and New North Roads. The accident occurred at a narrow bend in the road, which is steep at this point. The driver of the car, Mr. .T. K. Martin, of 44. Pah Road, Epsom, escaped with injuries to hie back, but Mrs. Martin suffered a fracture of the pelvis. Her condition this morning, was satisfactory. Her daughter received cuts and abrasions. As it was dark, and heavy rain was falling, the task of bringing the injured people to the road was very difficult, and about a dozen helpers laboured with stretchers for over an hour up the steep slope. Before Mrs. - Martin could he moved from beside the wrecked car, an anaesthetic had to be administered by Dr. K. H. Holdgate, who was summoned from Birkenhead. She was taken with her husband and daughter to the Auckland Hospital by the St. John Ambulance from Devonport, being admitted at 11.30. After an operation last night she was reported this morning, to be in a satisfactory condStion. The condition of Mr. Martin and his daughter is not serious. Had it not been for passing motorists who stopped and helped, it would not have been possible to get the injured people to the hospital in the time that was taken, as the cliff would be normally difficult to climb, being a steep clay bank covered with scrub. The car came to rest, wheels uppermost, and was completely wrecked.
