EPSOM TRACK. SEVERAL SMART SPRINTS. STAR PRONTO PLEASES. The dirt track was in excellent order at t Epsom this morning, and several smart efforts were recorded. a Dick Redmond and Belinda King i" (unlioppled) were associated over a mile ', and a half, the former finishing in front in 3.44, the last half-mile taking 1.11. The trotter is shaping up nicely, and will have his first race at the Auckland ) summer meeting. Bolinda King ran his ? last half-mile in 1.10. Willie Derby was 1 timed to run a mile in 2.18, and the last half in 1.5. He is improving as the 1 result of some fast work of late. Lucky ' Love traversed two miles in 4.46. He 1 rail his last two half-miles in 1.10, and was staying oil well over the final stages. 1 El Thorpe sprinted a mile and a quarter in 2.53 2-5. She was stopping a little - over the last bit. and took 1.13 2-5 for • the last four furlongs. Star Pronto moved up smartly, and in a great set-to just shaded Baron Grand, with Auto Machine right up. Star Pronto covered the distance in 3.38 3-5, and the last half-mile in 1.8 3-5. Baron Grand was doing his wofk well throughout, and took 3.36 3-5. Auto Machine, who was yery sore when he pulled up. was timed 1 to run 3.37 2-5. Forest Jewel, after reaching the six-furlong post in 1.4!). completed a mile and a quarter in 2.59 2-5. She skipped a couple of times on the journey, but showed plenty of dash. .Gala Day and Native Cole were to have worked a mile and a half, but the latter soon broke, and Gala Day was not under pressure to register 3.50, the last halfmile taking 1.12 3-5. Star Pronto was brought out again and gave Silver Watch nearly 2s start over a mile and a half. Silver Watch set the pace, and passed the mile in 2.20, and the mile and a quarter in | 2.52, but Star Pronto then moved up and went on to beat his companion by a couple of lengths in 3.25, the last halfmile occupying 1.5 2-5. Silver Watch, who has not been in work long, shaped very well to register 3.26 2-5. Cherrill i galloped with them, and is in"nice order.
