FOR BRIDGE PLAYERS.
An English edition of Ely Culbert•son's latest bridge annual "Contract Bridge Complete," the "gold book" of bidding and play, has been issued from the press of Faber and Faber. The title does not claim too inneli, the book certainly contains the most complete exposition of the Culbertson system vet attempted, and it goes into the highways and byways of the whole game from deal to score. It explores the possibilities from the viewpoint of the beginner, of llie average player, of the expert, and finally of the real bridge fanatic, and each can find something to study in it. The average player knows less than nothing of the two-way threebid, of the asking bid, of safety bidding, or of the new technique of no trump bidding. He can learn all about these, mysteries from this volume, and much more, for here in simple language are explained the general principles of bidding, of taking out, of signing off, of forcing bids and of responses to overcalls, things of which the player, be he ever so average, wants to know something if he is to get on with the game at all. Leads, defensive play finessing, end plays, squeezes, ruffing and crossruffing and a thousand other useful tilings are discussed in a volume which ;.s invaluable to the player who wants to take an intelligent interest in the game and get something in the way of intelligent enjoyment out of it.
