Although the murderer must have been ! one of the house party, it is not until the last chapter that he is unmasked. "The Little Man Murders" (Collins' Crime Club), by Vernon Loder. A different kind of criminal is here introduced—a little, frail, ineffectual man, presumed by his neighbours to be "henpecked" by his young and good-looking wife. He manages to make away with two larger men and only an interfering j police inspector spoils his plan to make ' one more large haul and then retire. ' "No End of a Rogue" (Longmans), by Frank A. Clement. Sir Archibald Albutt is trying to force his rival Fontaine into a •busines deal. Shortly after Fontaine leaves Albutt is found murdered. A portrait, constructed by an artist from a description by Fontaine, assists the police, during whose search a great deal comes to light' .nbout the dead financier's life.
