AGAINST AIR RAIDS.
Precautions for Private Homes In Britain. CHOICE OF REFUGES. LONDON, October 5. The Home Office, says the "News Chronicle," will shortly distribute millions of copies of a booklet intended to standardise air raid precautions in private homes. It contains advice on choice of a refuge room from which "uses can be excluded, and states that the room should be 10ft square and should accommodate five people without ventilation for 12 hours.
The booklet instructs householders to equip these refuges with the following:—Candles and matches; a hammer and nails; string, rags and scissors; an electric torch; brown paper; airtight food containers; tables and chairs; disinfectant; a washstand; a screen for privacy; sanitary conveniences; drinking water; tinned foods; plates and cups; books and writing materials; a heavy dark curtain; blankets, mattresses and eiderdowns; a wireless set; a gramophone; a fire extinguisher, or sand, with a shovel.
