LANDING FEAT.

Pilots Nerve-Racking Ordeal At Renfrew. UNDERCARRIAGE MISHAP. LONDON, October 5. "Port wheel burst. Clear the aerodrome for arrival at 3.45 p.m. A\as the sensational wireless message received at Renfrew Airport, yesterday, from Captain Elgev, who was flying a 10seater passenger aeroplane from Belfast to Glasgow. The machine, carrying two other employees of the company, was flying at a height of 4000 feet over the Irish Sea in a dense mist when a violent bump and explosion was felt. Captain Elgev says he did not know what had happened. He just waited for the aeroplane to fall to pieces into the sea, but wlieil he flew clear of the mfet lie looked out and saw that the greater part of the undercarriage and one wheel had disappeared. Apparently it had been hit by another aeroplane climbing through the haze. Captain Elgey landed the heavy craft with great skill on the remaining wheel without mishap, swinging the machine round as he touched the ground. He alighted in a semi-conscious condition as a result of the ordeal. What hit his aeroplane is still a mystery. No machines are reported to be missing.
