BIG STRIKE THREAT.
U.S. RELIEF WORKERS' PLAN. NEW YORK, October 4. It is disclosed that the Workers' Alliance of America is planning a nation-wide strike, or an equivalent demonstration, for the end of this month by 1,000,000 employees of the Works Progress Administration. The men demand a 20 per cent increase in pay, and a minimum wage of 40 dollars a month. These plans will take definite shape when the national executive committee meets in New York within 10 days under Mr. David Lasser, national chairman. It is stated that Mr. B. Sexton, head of the New York branch of the alliance demands virtually the same terms as those which the alliance has already made in New York and Minnesota without success. Government authorities recently stated that in the event of a strike against the Works Progress Administration, its projects would be cancelled if necessary. Nevertheless, union organisers at present are touring the East and Middle-West shaping their plans for concerted action.
