SCARCE FAT PIGS.

NEW PROBLEM FOR NAZIS. LONDON, September 28. A fat pig, writes the Berlin correspondent of "The Times," is a relatively scarce and precious animal in Germany. Its course from farm to market is controlled by elaborate regulations. Accordingly, the possibility of more profitable selling on a "black market is doubtless responsible for the existence of an illicit slaughterhouse where pigs are killed in secrecy at night-time. It was discovered when Storm Troops, who were watching a suspicious building, saw a lorry loaded with 21 prime pigs stuck in the mud. The result was a number of arrests. The scarcity of beef and pork is still acute. The public are advised to make up deficiencies in fat by eating more bread, sugar and potatoes. Future slaughterings have been further limited to 80 per cent of previous figures. It is hoped that the excellent fodder harvest will gradually increase supplies, as young beasts mature.
