MORNINGSIDE TUNNEL.
A ease has been made for the Morninjside Tunnel. And also the cost of same, approximately £2,000,000. As you stated in your sub-leader, the tunnel would save haulage, bring suburban areas into the region of cheap transport, etc. But why a Morningside Tunnel at £2,000,000 when the same objective could be reached by taking the railway across j by Cariaw Park into Grafton Gully and undefc'; the road to Mount Eden railway station? And * at much less than the cost of the scheme. A station could be provided near'-:-; Grafton Bridge, and by the use of rail cars ' or electric trains a fast suburban traffic could be built up. Might I s-up<rcst again to the Transport Board that it utilise the ground between Karangahape Road, Queen Street, ;r Symonds Street and St. Benedict's Street .to!" form a radiating tram centre, so that one could get a car from there to any part- of the city? We must look to the growth of the city, and not let our traffic problem finish at the dead end of Queen? Street. ; / .J7 BEAN.
