MEN DOWN TOOLS.

40-HOUR WEEK DEMANDED. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, this day. The men engaged under the No. 5 scheme by the Napier City Council refused to start work this morning when they demanded a 40-hour week. Those affected total 70. They intend intervewing Mr. J. S. Hunter, Secretary of Labour, to-morrow. The Mayor said to-day that the work was non-essential and was provided by the council in agreement with the authorities. One scheme held up was the preparation for the installation of the Parker fountain, recently presented to the town by Mr. Tom Parker. 1
