WRECK AVERTED.

SMALL VESSEL IN DANGER. SURGE IN GREY RIVER. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, Sunday. A repetition of the Abel Tasman wreck was narrowly averted at 5.15 p.m. yesterday, when a surge in the Grey River caused one of the cables of the South Taran'aki Steamship Company's vessel Inaha to snap. The vessel's screws, though not operating at the moment, were quickly set going, and doubtless prevented her from being taken downstream by the fiveknot current. There were- five other vessels at the wharf, all higher up than the Inaha, which vas ranging a good deal in the abnormal conditions. Quick work was done in starting the engine, and the vessel held her own, preventing any undue strain on the bow lines. Later the Inaha put into the stream and moved up to a berth that was safer. She had not loaded any of the cargo of coal she is taking t«. New Plymouth. The Inaha is a semi-Diesel vessel with a gross toniincre of 250. The engines are capable of developing 300 horse-power.
