MORE ACTIVITY PLANNED. GOITRE AND HYDATIDS. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Greater activity in medical researc! was assured by the Minister of Health Mr. Fraser, in the House of Representa t'ives to-day, when replying to representa lions made by Dr.* D. G. McMillan Go\ eminent, Dunedin West) regarding th need for more expenditure in tlii direction. Dr. McMillan, during the discussio on the Estimates,-pointed o(it that tlier were many problems peculiar to Ne\ Zealand, such as goitre and hydatids which needed considerable research. I the authorities were to deal effectively with these problems more money wouli be needed for the necessary investiga tions. In recent years the vote provide* for the work had been , progressively reduced, but he. hoped that/next year thi increase would be considerable. The Minister said he was impresse( ivith the necessity for a big increase ii the amount of research being done ii medical problems, and he would liki members of the House -too be. unanimou ibout the matter. 'It was not a questior of the need for . spending an enormou: amount of money' on spacious buildings 3ut for expenditure on the actual worl ;o be done .and the material necessary. Mr. Fraser assured the House that tl» Director-General of Health (Dr. M. H fVatt) would welcome the opporttinitj ;o embark on a more extensive plan oi research in co-operation with thi luthorities interested. The foundation! .voijjld be laid for research in the futuri )n a much wider scale than in the past
