CURTAIN RUNG DOWN.

DANCER SUFFERS STRAIN.

While Madame La Meri, the international dancer, was performing at His Majesty's Theatre last niglxt she signalled for the curtain to be rung down, as she was not able to continue. She was helped to lier- dressing room, and after receiving medical attention she returned to lier liotel. The musical trio concluded the programme. After Madame La Meri had been examined by a doctor this morning it was announced that a leg muscle was strained and that the doctor had advised her not to make any public appearances for at least a fortnight. It was the doctor's opinion that if it had been possible for her to perform all her dances in liigh-heeled shoes she might have been permitted to perform, but as her programme involved a wide variety of dances, some of which were in lowheeled shoes and others performed barefooted, dancing was inadvisable.

The dancer strained her leg in a simple way when walking across the stage. It is not expected that the strain will cause any permanent disability. A farewell performance is being arranged for Thursday, September 17, in the Town Hall, the night before Madame La Meri's scheduled departure from New Zealand.
