ELLSWORTH RESCUE

DOMINION'S VOTE OF £2000.

(By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Friday.

Asked to explain in the House of Representatives to-day an item of £2000 in tho Marine Department's estimates for the Ellsworth relief expedition, the Minister of Marine, Mr. Fraser. said that Australia had communicated with New Zealand in respect to the Discovery, which was in the Antarctic. There had also been communications with the British Government.

Australia. New Zealand and Great Britain had agreed to help to rescue the American explorer, said Mr. Fraser. New Zealand limiting the expenditure to £2000. It was not known yet what tho Dominion's contribution actually amounted to. He was sure that every citizen had been pleased that New Zenland had agreed to help in the rescue.
