COUNCIL BUSINESS.
ENGLISH TOUR MATTERS. 1 MAORI CONTROL CONFERENCE. At the first meeting of the council of the New Zealand Rugby League, since the departure of the English team, Mr. Cyril Snedden presided, and referred to the valuable co-operation of members that had contributed to the harmonious and efficient working of all arrangements, paving the way for the success of the New Zealand portion of the British tour. Mr. Snedden added that in all respects the visit had proved highly satisfactory, and reflected the growth of the code in the Dominion. A letter from the Auckland League congratulated the council, also upon the way the New Zealand teams were prepared for the Test matches. It was felt that the lessons learned from the international contests proved that New Zealand had the talent, and would gain much if the lessons of 'play were learned for future guidance. The West Coast League returned thanks for the care and attention given to its players while in Auckland, and the -Caj'anaki League reported that the English match at New Plymouth was greatly appreciated, and had already reacted favourably in tlic interests of tlie cods in the province. The capable work of the secretary (Mr. W. 0. Carlaw) and the treasurer (Mr. N. D. Culpan) was placed on record, and it was also resolved to thank the St. John Ambular.ee Association for its services during the English team matches. Xhe secretary advised that a complete statement of accounts arising from the English visit was not yet ready. Referee's Report. Mr. M. Wetherill, referee in the second Test," reported having ordered off _E. Jenkins, of the English team, for using abusive language and refusing to retract. As the referee had not stated the nature of the language, it was decided to adjourn consideration pending a further report showing the words used. In committee, the appeal of Newton Rangerß on behalf of the suspended player, A. Nathan, was dismissed. Mr. E. btaiiworthy, who represented the council on tour with the English team, was thanked for a lengthy report upon all phases of the trip, and it was decided to discuss various features of the report at a later date 111 connection with plans for the development of the code in New Zealand. A subcommittee of the executive officers was appointed to confer with the Maori Control Board to deal with developments. Correspondence was received from the Inangahua League, through the West Coast League, concerning the suggested coaching appointment of J. Cutbush, who recently returned from England. In response to a request for financial support for the staging of a senior match at Thames, the council resolved to advise that •the proposal was not in accord witli policy.
