IN NEW CRUISER
CAPTAIN G. W. T. ROBERTSON
SERVICE IN NEW ZEALAND.
Captain G. W. T. Robertson, formerly in command of H.M.S. Veronica and late Deputy Director of Naval Ordnance, ha* been selected as the first commanding officer of the now cruiser Penelope. Building at the Belfast shipyard of Harland ami Wolff, the Penelope was laid down on May 30, 1934, and launched oil October 15 last. She should be ready for service about September, and is to join the 3rd Cruiser Squadron, Mediterranean Fleet, in which her sistership, the Arethuoa, is flagship. Captain Robertson has held two other commands afloat—in the sloop Veronica, New Zealand station, in 1925-30, and in the Resource, fleet repair ship, in the Mediterranean, in 1931-32. He served during the fy-ar as gunnery oflicer of the cruiser Juno and the battleship Commonwealth, and as gunnery officer and acting commander of the battleship Lord Nelson. He graduated at the Staff College in 1925-20.
