GREAT SOUTH ROAD.

ELIMINATION OF CURVES. FURTHER DEVIATIONS. Advice that the Main Highways Board had decided to acquire land in the Papakura and Papatoetoe ridings for the purpose of making deviations on the Great South Road, was given to the Manukau County Council at its meeting to-day. The whole of the cost was to be borno by the board, it was stated. The section' of the road in question was shown on a map submitted by. the board. It allows for the elimination of angles and curves in the highway for approximately distances of 48 chains from the Redoubt Road corner to Kerr's Road corner, Wiri, and of 30 chains in the Papakura town district. The letter was received, and it was decided to reply to the effect that the acquisition of the land necessary without cost to the council should be rated, and that the council would not accept any liability in any future reconstruction costs involved.
