NEW WARSHIPS.
FOR GERMAN NAVY. Launching Forty-eight in §ix Months. !> NAVAL REARMAMENT. United Press Association. —Copyright. (Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON', January 24. The "Daily Telegraph" naval c6r-. respondent learns that Germany is shortly laying down two new battleships," of 'at least 26,000 tons, and carrying nine heavy guns, and an air-craft-carrier of 20,000 tons. This is in addition to 112,000 tons of war-: ships now under construction. Germany will launch during the next six months two 2G,000-ton battleships, two 10,000-ton armoured cruisers, 10 1625-ton destroyers, 18 200-ton. submarines, and 10 000-ton sloops. The naval commander-in-chief is responsible solely to Herr Hitler for tbe chief naval station at Kiel, the second naval base at Wilhelmsliaven and all the North Sea and Baltic fortifications. The naval personnel of 34,000 is still growing. At the present rate of progress it is assured .that Germany will attain the maximum agreed naval strength, namely, 35 per cent of Britain's, by 1942.
