BATHERS RESCUED.
CAUGHT BY UNDERTOW. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) OPOTIKI, this day. Bathers again got into difficulties on the Waiotahi Beach on Boxing Day. A girl, Elva Carney, was caught by the undertow and was unable to get ashore. Friends swimming with her brought her ashore exhausted. Yesterday afternoon Mrs. J. Coote and Miss McLean, matron of the Opotiki Hospital, both got into difficulties. An alarm was given and Mr. A. Kelly, auctioneer, of Te Puke, successfully brought both ashore. The trouble on the beach appears to be caused by a bank,;,, which is formed beyond the breakers, causing a strong undertow.
