RESEARCH ORGANISATION. FORMATION OF N.Z. BODY. The necessary resolutions for the formation of a New Zealand Historical Society have been passed by the executive bodies of the Hastings, To Awamutu, Buy of Plenty and Auckland Historical Societies, and the date of confirmation by the council of the Auckland Society, September 20, has become the date of the formation of the New Zealand body. The New Zealand Society consists of 30 foundation members who are officebearers of the Hastings, Te Awamutu, Bay of Plenty and Auckland societies, with Mr. A. P. King, secretary of the Auckland Society, as provisional secretary, and the following as members of the provisional executive: —Rev. A. B. Chappell, Auckland: Bishop Bennett, Hastings; Mr. J. Oliphant, To Awamutu; Mr. B. Sladden, Bay of Plenty. It is provided that _the membership of the new body may~bo increased at any time by the addition of representatives of historical societies which havis not yet linked up, and it is hoped that advantage will be taken of this provision. It is hoped to hold a meeting in Auckland or Hamilton at an early date.
