PRICE CHARGED FOR WATER. MOUNT EDEN DISCUSSION. After considerable discussion the Mount Eden Borough Council last night appointed Messrs. W. J. Gatenby, S. E. Chappell and E. It. Greenfield a deputation to wait upon the works committee of the City Council with the object of getting a reduction in the present price of 1/2 per 1000 gallons which the City Council charges the Mount Eden borough for water. The'discussion took place after a deputation from the Mount Eden School Committee had asked that- water to the school be supplied free. Several speakers expressed the opinion that the question of water for school children was a national one and should be dealt with by tbe Government. It should form one of the remits to be considered at the municipal conference to be held at Napier. The Mayor, Mr. T. McXab, said the Mount Eden Council had made previous requests to the City Council for a reduction in the price of water. "They have only one answer when you go to them— amalgamation," said the Mayor. Mr. Johns was keen on approaching the City Council for free water for schools, but the majority preferred to seek a reduction which would beneiit all i ratepayers.
