BETS WITH CONSTABLE. MOTOIt DRIVER FINED £25. Described as a motor driver, Daniel Augustus Lindsay, aged 48, lor whom Mr J. Terry appeared, pleadod guilty in the Police Court this morning to a charge of using preniraus on th<; "round floor of PalmerstoM Buildings as :i common gaming house on November li. Senior Detective Hall said tlmt a plain clothes constable had no dt.Uculty i!i making two 5/ bets and taking a 5/ doable with defendant on Nov.mbor 0, while two further bfie were made on Ncvember 11. On November 13 the •shop was searched by Detectives Millar ai.d Moore and a quantity of betting material seized. Lindsay., who hud not bren before tlic Court previously, was in a fair way of business. Mr. Terry said that after being unemployed for some time, Lindsay had taken over the business of a tailor's agency. Business was not lucrative and as a result of the demand in the locality defendant had taken seme email bets. His operations and his patronage had been small. Lindsay was fined £25 and co.4s. 10/.
