GIFT OF £500.
HOSPITAL TO BENEFIT. £32,000 BEQUEST TO COME
Notification of a bequest of approximately £500 under the will of the lato Mrs "Ann Elizabeth Oliver, of Newton, was received by the Auckland Hospital Board yesterday afternoon, when Mr. G. T. Parvin said that such bequests should not be used by the board for capital expenditure. ' Dr. J. P. Hastings said that a medical expert who recently visited Auckland had commented upon the voluntary system under which English hospitals
were run. , I The chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, said ' that ho had been informed by a man ' who knew London hospitals that the collection of subscriptions waft a "night- ' mare." He knew of a bequest of £32,000 which would come to the board . in the near future. At one time the j Government gave £1 for £1 on bequests, but that had been withdrawn.- At present the New Zealand hospitals had a system of assured finance, and that was better than any other system to getfunds. The board very much appreciated the present bequest.
