WANGANUI NOTES.

HORSES FOR FEILDING. EXCHANGE OF DATES SUGGESTED. Refresher, who is engaged in the Cambridge Handicap with 7.10 at Te Rapa next week, has been racing without luck recently. He ran a fine race at Waverley in the Cup, only to suffer a narrow defeat by Silk Sox. The Tea Tray gelding ran his usual honest race at Bulls on Saturday, but Jubilee Song was just a trifle too solid for him. Refresher is such a consistent galloper that a win may come his way shortly. Gold Gleam was solidly backed at Waverley and again at Bulls, but on the form he showed in each case it looks as if he is on the down grade. Both races were run over his favourite distance, five furlongs, but he failed J;o show any of his old dash.

Alcides is always more or less sore and his owner-trainer, Mr. L. G. Paul, _is unable to »ve him much work. Despite this, the Pombal gelding was only just beaten at Waverley and again at Bulls, beating all but the winner. Alcides would win some good races if he could be got properly fit, as he has a lot of speed and finishes on well.

The racing Spiral, Moquette and Imposture had at Trentham did them no harm and they are back on the tracks doing easy -work, looking bright and well. They may be seen out at Feilding and at Woodville, prior to going north for the Auckland summer meeting. Entail will not race at Feilding, but will be given' a run at Wood: ville, and this should do him good in view of his Great Northern Derby engagement. The son of Posterity is a highly-strung sort that does not require much galloping, but he appears to be becoming more 6olid, and if he can be landed at the post fit and well at Ellerslie he will probably run a big race in the classic event. He shapes like one that should stay put the distance.

When the state of the going at Trentham was realised the connections of Midian did not fancy his. chance and were not surprised that he did not get into the money. The son of Weathervane will make his next appearance at Feilding. Negotiations have been in progress for some time with a view to effecting an exchange of dates by the Wanganui Jockey Club and the • Egmont Racing Club, as a result of which the autumn meetings of these two clubs will be held in the reverse order to the season's dates as allotted. If the Racing Conference approves of this proposal the Wanganui Club will race on January 31 and February. 1 and the Egmont Club on February 13 and 15. The Wanganui Club is endeavouring to arrange for the Saturday and Monday, February 1 and 3, but it remains to be seen whether the Taranaki Club will make any objection to this, as that club's fixture is set down for February 6 and 8.
