TOWN EVACUATED.
People Panic-Stricken by Earthquakes. SUFFERS IN MONTANA. NEW YORK, October 21. After a series of about 60 lesser shocks experienced during the past six days, the town of Helena, Montana, has been severely shaken by earthquakes yesterday and to-day, two people being killed and several hundred injured, 50 of them requiring medical attention. A number of fires have broken out.
The population almost in its entirety has left and camped in tents or in the open on the hills. Stronger shocks are feared. Damage is estimated at between 2,000,000 and 3,000,000 dollars, some buildings collapsing and about 200 houses being unfit for habitation.
Geological experts say tho disturbances occurred along an earth fracture probably from one to five miles underground. The shocks were felt in surrounding States and in parts of Canada.
