MURIEL BRUNSKILL.
LAST CONCERT IN NEW ZEALAND. Next Thursday night Auckland will extend a welcome back and a farewell to Madame Muriel Brunskill, the famous contralto, who will give her final NeiV Zealand concert at the Town Hall. A wonderful impression has been created throughout the Dominion by this singer. The Wellington "Dominion" stated that "no voice of this order has been heard in this country for the last 25 years," and the Southland "Times" expressed the opinion that "since the war, at least, no singer heard in Invercargill has equalled Muriel Brunskill," while the Southland "News" critic wrote: "No singer who has come to Invercargill in recent years has so thrilled an audience as Madame Muriel Brunskill did last night. Whatever expectations were held were but pale shadows beside the actuality of her art."
One of the most dramatic songs on Thursday's programme will be Granville Bantock's "Song of the Genie," and another thrilling number will be "Mad Bes6," a song of a maiden who has lost her lover and her reason. Brackets of lieder by Hugo Wolf and Richard Strauss and some charming songs by Delius, Boughton and John Ireland will also be features of the programme, and there will also be a mystic song, "Across the Door," by Arnold Bax. Carl Bartling, the popular pianist, will play "Fantasie Impromptu" (Chopin), "Grillen" (Schumann) and "Witches' Dance" and "Shadow Dance," by MacDowell. The box plan is at Lewis Eady, Ltd., and day sales will commence to-morrow.
