THE FONSONBY CLUB. SEASON'S ACTIVITIES REVIEWED. "For the club the pnst season was indeed an active one. The officers responsible for the administration of the club's affairs have done valuable work in the interests of swimming generally, as well as tor the Ponsoiiby Club," states the report which is to be presented at the annual general meeting of the Ponsonby Amateur Swimming and Life-Saving Club this evening. | The report adds that Sir, L. Brighton was re-elected chairman of the Auckland Centre of the Royal' Life-Saving Society, and Sir. T. SlcCarthy again acted as treasurer of the Auckland Swimming Centre, besides being elected chairman of the Auckland Water Polo Control Board. I One carnival was held by the club at (he Tepid Baths. The lady captain, Sliss Slona Leydon, was again extremely successful in the national championships, winning the 1220 yards and 440 yards l'ree-style and the 100 yards backstroke. She also established new Dominion records for the 440 yards and 880 yards free-style. In appreciation of her efforts, the club sponsored a scheme to send her to Sydney to cpmpete in the New South Wales champion-1 ship meeting. There she won the half-mile j anil mile. The junior champion, 11. Goldsmith, was also sent to the New Zealand junior championships. Slembers performed well at diving. Sliss D. Walmsley won the _ Auckland ladies' championships, J. Richardson the Auckland intermediate boys' chain-! pionsliip and E. Slidgeley was runner-up for the Auckland men's championship. A. | Rnper and T. Stotter were selected to rcpre-; sent Auckland in the senior water polo team, winner of tlie New Zealand championship. G. Smith was a member of the -B team arid of the victorious flying squadron relay team. A. Raper, the holder, narrowly lost the 150 yards backstroke championship of Auckland. The principal trophies awarded by the club were won as follow :—Naval Plate, N. Conway: Cowley Cup, 11. Goldsmith; WaiWai Shield, harbour race from Western wharf to Shelly Beach, G. Usher (Birkenhead and Northeote Club) : Slolloy Shield, harbour race from Chelsea to Shelly Beach, L. Green (Iluntly) ; Herbert Smith Cup, junior harbour race. A. Litchfield; Bontwriglit trophy, G. Yearbur.v; Walrond Cup, Sliss 13. Hewer; Hedlnnd Cup, Sliss D. Stead; Leys Cup, L. Pritchard. The 50 yards and 100 yards senior championships of the club were won by G. Smith and tlie junior by 11. PAST SEASON REVIEWED. A successful past season is revealed in tin? report which is to be presented at the annual meeting this evening of the North Shore Amateur Swimming and Life-Savin? Club. It is stated that since October 1, 3934, 73 new members had been enrolled, making the total 'Membership 370. It was believed that the entries for the second of the club's three carnivals at the Tepid Baths —320— constituted a record for New Zealand. Three Tommy I.owe Slemorial Shield events (relay) were staged at the carnivals and the' liigliest aggregate of points was gained bv the club entitling it to hold the shield for the season. This was something to be proud of as it was the first time in tlie historv of the shield that the trophy has been held by one club. In each previous year the result had been a draw. The North Shore primary schools' championships were held in Slnrch and the champion school for the season was Belmont. „ Appreciation Is recorded of llie action of Mrs. V. Johnston, sister of tlie late. Mr. Tommv I-owe, in presenting to the dub the Tommv Lowe Junior .Memorial Shield lor competition between the North Shore primary schools. This shield, which was Ix'lng made, was believed to be a replica of the original Tommy Lowe Memorial Shield. The beach carnivals l'or children had proved very popular and thanks were due to Sir. W. Elwortli for organising nnd controlling them, to Sir. Train, of the Devonport School, for his co-operatiou and assistance, and to other officials who had helped. Reference was made to the harhour races, cup competitions and to the successes of the club's representatives at the Auckland and New Zealand championships. Congratulations are extended to Vliss Edna Ralney on her line achievement winning both the New Zealand 100 yards intermediate girls' free-style ciinmpionship lllid also the New Zealand 100 yards ladies free-style championship in the same J'ear. The club, it was added, had entered two teams in the water polo senior grades, the It team, captained by 11. Slackmtosh, win,ii„" the B grade championship and also the'R grade ball dribbling championship. In the sphere of life-saving the senior team had taken part in events nt I ilia.
