PAEROA MEETING.
THE FINAL DAY. SILVER BRIER'S SUCCESS. SOLOMON WINS AGAIN. The weather was anything but.favourable for the concluding day of the Taumarunui Jockey Club's annual meeting at Paeroti yesterday. Rain fell on the previous day and throughout the night and morning, and though it cleared about mid-day it soon commenced again, and some very heavy showers came down during tho afternoon. There was a fair attendance, but the going was very heavy. During tho day the sum of £6701 10/ was put through the machine, compared with £9124 10/ for the corresponding day last year, a decrease of £2423. This made a ' total for the fixture of £17,920 10/, against £20,113 10/ for tho previous annual meeting, a decrease of £2193. The Chief Event. Desert Star, Sir . Abb, Velocipede and Killadar dropped out of the President's Handicap, leaving five runners to face the starter. The favourite selections were Baroscope, Oay Rose and Silver Brier.,' the last, named winning in good style. Baroscope led out of the straight fiom Silver Brier, Bonny Gay, Lagoon and Gay Rose and there was little change along the back. Silver Brier and Gay Rose were together crossing the top, with Baroscope, Bonny Gay and Lagoon following. Silver Brier led Gay Rose into the straight, the pair being attended by Bonny Gay and Baroscope, with Lagoon last. Over the final stages Silver Brier drew, out to win by a length and a half from Bonny Gay, who beat Gay Rose by two lengths. Lagoon was next and Baroscope last. Miss Hornet Wins Novice. Fei-Mali was not saddled up for the Novice" Handicap and the bulk of the money came for Thangilamba, La Feminc Noire and Race Whip. Sweet Lap, La Femme Noire, Grand. Tonic, Thangilamba and Miss Hornet were quickest to begin, the . order along the back being Thangilamba, Miss Hornet, Grand Tonie, Sweet Lap and Mafeking, with Clianiary next and Madelon last. Miss Hornet took the lead at the home turn, her nearest attendants being Charaary, Mafeking, Madelon, Thangilamba and Sing Lee. Miss Hornet increased her advantage over, the last furlong, to win by three lengths from Clianiary, with Madelon a length away. Sing Lee, La Femme Noire, Mafeking and Race Whip were next. The Steeples. Spalpiko, Semiarch and Lanner did not parade for the Second Steeplechase and Ardmanning and Cromwell were in most demand. London and Cromwell showed out early, the latter leading past the stand from London and Clan Ronald, with Ardmanning five lengths away. Cromwell fell at the fence approaching the back, but was remounted, and London led past the stand the last time from Ardmanning and Clan Ronald, with Cromwell last. Ardmanning took charge along the back from London, with Cromwell thirty lengths away, Clan Ronald having pulled up. There was no change in the run home, Ardmanning winning by twenty lengths from London, wi!h Cromwell the same distance away. Solomon Completes Double. Royal Secret was tho only defection in tho Railway Handicap, in which Solomon and Bellbroney had most friends. When they were let go Solomon began best from Queen Nona and Leo Colossus, the first-named leading across the top from Bellbroney, Leo Colossus, Day Wind and Queen Nona. The favourite was followed into tho straight by Bellbroney and Queen Nona, who got a run on the rails, with Leo Colossus and Day Wind next. Solomon was not troubled to beat Leo Colossus by two lengths, with Queen Nona a length away. Bellbroney and Day Wind were next. The Concluding Event. Leo Colossus, King Brierly, Queen Nona and Ruapai were not paraded for the Farewell Handicap, with which the meeting concluded. Most money came for Grand Score, while Lady Ruler and Triune also had friends. The early leaders were Lady Ruler, Triune, Landlubber, Sir Tommy and Pound Sterling, but before the top .was reached Sir Tommy was in charge from Triune, Lady Ruler, Landlubber, Lady Diana, Pound Sterling, Grand Score, Gay Egypt and Winlona. Sir Tommy was followed into tho straight by Triune, Lady Diana, Lady Ruler, Grand Score and Landlubber. Lady Diana took charge halfway down and went on to win by a length and a half from Triune, who beat Landlubber by a neck. Then came Grand Score, Sir Tommy. Winlona, Gay Egypt, Lady Ruler and Pound Sterling. Later results are:—
