HAWERA HORSES.
ALCHEMIC AMISS. ONLY THREE FOR AUCKLAND. Several alterations in the arrangements of the Hawera horses intended for the Auckland spring meeting have been found necessary, and as a result the centre will be represented by only tMee horses —Gay Chief, Bantry and L'owenberg—at the fixture/ says our Hawera correspondent. J.. Fryer's Great Northern Guineas candidate Alchemic was fbijnd to have a slight filling round one .of his tendons after galloping on Saturday morning, which, though not considered serious, is sufficient to cause him to be eased up in work for a day or two, his trainer not caring to take any Tisks with the promising son of Lackham. Alchemic had been working splendidly, and his prospects' in the Great Northern Guineas were highly assessed. The steeiplechaser Just Off has been more or less sore during the past week; consequently his trip north has also been cancelled.
Bantry and Loweriberg have done a fair amount of work, and both have made improvement since racing. Bantry id . the handier horse for a right-handed course, and will have the services of H. N. Wiggins. Lowenberg's chance would be more highly thought o£ on left-handed going, but the Ellerslie mile is one of the best in the Dominion, and may not unduly hamper this long-striding three-year-old, who will be piloted by B. H. Morris. Hawera has two good representatives in the Guineas, and both will carry local support.
