LICENSE GRANTED.
ROAD TRANSPORT SERVICE. CHATEAU-WAITOMO CAVES. In a reserved judgment the. No. 5 Transport Licensing Authority has granted a seasonal license to Webb's Motors, Ltd., to run a daylight road passenger service between the Chateau Tongariro and the Waitoino Caves Hostel. The license is granted with the limitation that no intermediate passengers shall .be carried between Taumarunui and Waitomo Hostel on either the nortliward or southward Journey. The authority's decision was a majority one, the chairman holding that the service should be restricted to between the Chateau and To Kuiti as a non-stop run. In giving the decision the chairman stated: "It appears to me that there is not at present room for a second service as between Te Kuiti or Hangatiki and the hostel, and that if competition is allowed in the summer there is danger of no service being available in the winter. There would be no more inconvenience caused to tourists and other travellers from the Chateau in changing to Bentley's service car at Te Kuiti, than that experienced by tourists and other u'avellers changing from the fast trains at Te Kuiti or Hangatiki at the present time, or from a rail car in the future."
