GISBORNE, Saturday. Adjustments may be necessary in the dates'of play for the New Zealand Women s hockey tournament, and R is thought now that the tournament will have to be started on Friday. August 30. The original date was settMl by the New Zealand Women's Hockey Association as Saturday, August 31, but the large number of entries may make an earlier start necessary. At a general meeting of committees on Thursday evening it was agreed that the games should commence on August 29, and finish on Soptember 7, with the interIslaiid match. An announcement suggesting the necessity for a further alteration was made by the organiser, Mr. A. Cassin, to-day. He said that there was a possibility of two South Island teams not being able to reach Glsborne before August -!>, and that wouhl mean that the tournament could not start until the following day. In that event the final would be played on the Saturday of the following week, and there would be the possibility of the inter-Island match heinpr abandoned. If teams from one Island had to contest the final this course would be adopted, but if the finalists were, one team from each Island tho inter-Island game could be played as a curtain-raiser to the main attraction, the north and south representative teams to include none of the finalists. Final decision on the matter would be matie at an executive meeting on Monday.
