Papatoetoe were first away, but F. Clark repulsed the attack. From a free-hit Vipond trapped the ball, passed to Conn, who returned to Vipond, but Knight took the ball on his pads and a corner resulted. Vipond shot from the corner-hit and registered St. Luke's first tfoal. St. Luke's continued to press, and Papatoetoe were forced to concede two corners in quick succession. Fenton and Alexander were conspicuous with some pretty movements down the right flank, but lack of finish in their circle work spoilt several of St. Luke's chances. Vipond took the ball into the circle, but dallied too long with his hit and Cocks cleared the danger. V. Smytheman was next seen in a spectacular solo run from the half-way line, he drew Wattam and found the net with a stinging shot. Papatoetoe continued to press, but Wattam kicked clear and St. Luke's raced goalwards where Alexander scored with a trickling shot. Half-time sounded without further score. Somerville were smartly away, but offside cost a chance, and Wesley immedintoly counter attacked. A nice attack by Wellborne. Watts and Braithwaite was stopped on the. circle edge and Surman cleared. Pickens further improved the position until Smith stopped and hit to Glanville. The right wing got away, but was badly obstructed by Dally and the ball crossed the line. The Wesley vanguard got away, reached the circle and missed an open goal. A smart counter attack led by Wellborne forced two penalty corners and from the second Watts shot. Airey stopped, but Wellborne dashed in to net. Somerville 2, Wesley 1. Somervillp pressed for some time, but erratic hitting threw away chances. A long hit by Burton was taken by Anthony, who beat two backs, passed to Philpotts; IJelahunty ran to the circle edge and kicked clear. The Somerville van again b'-okr through and reached the circle.
